Still in shock of losing a friend!

When I first arrived to live in Bodrum I chose Turkbuku and in 1996 it was a great place to be living in! And the first few people I met were animal lovers and caretakers just like myself, in a week I had 2 puppies a kitten, bunch of animal lover friends, local vet friends, animal welfare organization friends, and the rest is history…. After 17 years I still have same friends….. well not all of them apparently….

One of those few/rare friends I met at the time was Önder Çevik. And along came a friendship which lasted all these years, thru trials and tribulations, mostly about the animals we cared for, and many hours of conversations while waiting for a dog to come to after an operation or a cat! How many of my pets he saved, how many street dogs and cats I took to him to care for, how many times I woke him up, with emergencies, ask for help for guidance, no other vet were giving out their cellphone numbers Önder was the only one who did at the time and he answered and he responded and he came no matter what!

This friendship came to a halt this past week, when I heard from another vet friend Akın who was Önder’s assistant for years at Çağatay Klinik, that Önder had passed away! I just couldn’t believe, “nasil yani yaw?!” how do you mean how could this be?!

We lost him to a heart attack on the 21st of October 2013 Monday, it hit me harder then hard, because he was so close in so many ways, his birthday for instance: he was born on jan 20 1960, in 2 ways that is relevant to me, my dad’s birthday is the same: 20th of Jan and those who know me know this my birthday is Jan 3rd 1960, it is so hard to accept the fact that people closer to our age are going sooner nowadays, too many too soon, too unexpected, too untimely… You will be missed deeply, I will never forget you, I thank you for all the conversations we had, heated debates about life, politics, philosophy and ourselves and I am at the same time sorry for all the other times I had an excuse not to sit down for a cup of coffee and conversations…

ÇOK ZAMANSIZ GİTTİN BE ARKADAŞIM YAW!

Dogo - cooking for a sick carnivore by a vegetarian!

Being a vegetarian for over 20 years, I always found it hard to stand the smell of any kind of meat cooking or otherwise!... So imagine how I'm feeling right now looking after a sick dog who needs special food, home-cooked real food! Most I can deal with is chicken liver and carrots and noodles! Let's get to it! And feeding time ... let's see if she likes it!...
